Our Work

Sudan has some of the world’s worst maternal and child health outcomes. The health facilities cannot provide basic primary health services because they are deficient in skilled staff, essential equipment, medicines, and supplies. The lack of basic primary health services results in children suffering needlessly, dying from malnutrition and other treatable diseases, and mothers facing dire consequences due to the absence of antenatal care.

Since 2014, MFH has been partnering with the Diocese of El Obeid and the Mother of Mercy Hospital (MMH) in the Nuba Mountains to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis created by Sudan’s civil war. MMH is the only referral hospital in the region, and it struggles to keep up with the extreme demand for health services. MFH helped to rehabilitate 6 health clinics in the outlying areas around the hospital (Armdadu, Kubang, Lugi, Mendi, Tangal, and Tongoli), including training and supporting Community Health Workers and Traditional Birth Attendants.
