UPDATE: MFH Hurricane Matthew Relief Efforts in Haiti

Medicines for Humanity's Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in Haiti are underway. Together with our partners, The Daughters of Charity in Cite Soleil and Sibert and The Little Sisters of St. Therese in Riviere Froide, we've assessed the situation and are responding accordingly. We are fortunate to report that our partners' health facilities at our project sites suffered no substantial structural damage. However, severe winds and extreme flooding devastated the surrounding communities.

Our greatest immediate concern is the water supply. Water-borne illnesses, including cholera, were already major public health problems in these communities. With further contamination from flooding, insufficient access to clean water could pose an existential threat to the most vulnerable.

With generous support from committed donors, MFH has already mobilized over $30,000 in emergency funding to provide and deliver medicines and water purification tablets (Aquatabs) to our sisters partners. The sisters are working tirelessly to distribute these lifesaving medicines and resources to the most vulnerable in their communities.

In the days, weeks and months ahead, we anticipate more challenges. The services the sisters provide through our projects will be more important than ever.
