Sister Joyce Meyer Received SOAR! Award Celebrating Religious Life

May 22, 2017 - Sister Joyce Meyer, PMVM was honored at the 2017 SOAR! Awards Reception celebrating religious life.

Sister Joyce served as the executive director of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation's Fund for Sisters from 1999 to 2011. Since then she's stayed very busy. She joined the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1958 at age 17.

She then ministered as a teacher, spiritual director and a conference facilitator, and worked for five years as a missionary in Zambia. Following her time in Africa, Sister Meyer served in leadership in her congregation for 12 years. She held the position of president of the corporate board of the Presentation Health System based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and served on the sponsorship board of the National Catholic Health Care Association for four years. She also served as secretary for the National Conference of Presentation Sisters for four years.

Currently she is a consultant to organizations who work with Sisters, particularly in Africa and Asia. Sister Meyer serves on the board of directors for Medicines for Humanity, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, and Good Shepherd Sisters Global Ministries.

The mission of SOAR! is to:

  • raise and provide funds for congregations to meet immediate needs of their retired and infirm members;
  • educate the public about the serious retirement needs confronting elderly religious; and
  • develop a national network of concerned individuals who wish to respond to this need.
The mission of SOAR! brings together people from all religious denominations whose lives have been touched by the unparalleled contributions of Catholic Sisters, Brothers and Priests.
