Boston Marathon Team MFH 2014 Announced

January 15, 2014 - Eight very dedicated people will run this year’s Boston Marathon to raise money for MFH child survival projects around the world. Through John Hancock’s 2014 Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program, MFH received four official entries to offer to runners who would each commit to raising a minimum of $5,000. After receiving interest and applications from many potential candidates, four were chosen to represent Medicines for Humanity: Jim Durkin, Phil McBride, Colleen Sheehan, and Colby Tallman.

In addition, three members of the 2013 MFH Marathon Team are returning this year. Nicole McGinnis Hamel, Kelly Hawk, and Fernando Mena were all about a mile from the finish line last year, when the race was stopped. The B.A.A. offered 2014 entries and bibs to all 2013 runners who were unable to finish the race and who would like to complete it this year. All three accepted and signed on again. Rounding out 2014 Team MFH is marathoner, Stephen Chaloner. Stephen qualified for Boston 2014 when he ran the New York Marathon last fall. All four of these additional runners have pledged to raise money for MFH through their participation this year.

This year, Team MFH is being coached by running expert, Jim Doyle. Jim has been associated with and has coached marathon runners for more than 25 years. He is also a veteran Cross Country and Track Coach with several major championships to his credit.

Again this year, Crowdrise.com, will provide the online platform for the team’s fundraising and networking, through a special arrangement with John Hancock. As a result, people who would like to support Team MFH can do so at http://www.crowdrise.com/MedicinesforHumanity2014Boston
